July 7, 2016

Hungary. Budapest – On June 11 Citi celebrated its 11th annual Global Community Day, as more than 320 Citi volunteers in Hungary joined 85,000 colleagues, alumni, clients, family and friends in more than 500 cities in 91 countries and territories to engage in service activities in their local communities. In the days leading up to and including Global Community Day, Citi volunteers participated in more than 1,400 service projects ranging from urban revitalization to literacy and education, career readiness, environmental conservation and disaster relief.

Citi Hungary volunteers, including family members and friends worked together on June 11 to improve the environment by renovating a playground, painting fences, clearing walking paths in the Budakeszi Vadaspark Wild Life Park and its surrounding, providing the local community with a clean and safe green space. Pilisi Parkerdő Forestry and Budakeszi Vadaspark Wild Life Park, Citi Hungary’s long term community partners helped organize the event.

Chief Executive Officer for Citi Hungary, Kevin A. Murray, said, “Volunteerism is a central part of the Citi employee experience, and I was delighted to join the Citi Global Community Day with other colleagues from Citi Hungary. It is great to be part of a truly global initiative, and I am impressed to see how our colleagues dedicated their time and energy and demonstrated tremendous team effort in order to make a positive impact on our community.”

Global Community Day offers a wide range of service opportunities to work alongside community and non-profit partners to help improve our cities and neighborhoods. Many of the youth involved with the Citi Foundation’s Pathways to Progress initiative are participating and planning volunteer events across key cities globally. Citi is also partnering with companies including Bloomberg and Deloitte, bringing together employee volunteers for select urban projects in New York City, Mexico City, Hong Kong, Lagos, and Mumbai. Since the inaugural Global Community Day in 2006, Citi volunteers have contributed more than 2.5 million hours of service to Global Community Day projects in hundreds of cities.

“Volunteerism is a key part of giving back to the communities we serve around the globe,” said Citi CEO Michael Corbat. “My colleagues and I share the view that our success as a company is inextricably linked to the positive outcomes and progress we can help enable for others.”
