Ignacio (Nacho) Gutiérrez-Orrantia appointed CEO of Citibank Europe Plc

DUBLIN – Citi has appointed Ignacio (Nacho) Gutiérrez-Orrantia as Chief Executive Officer of Citibank Europe plc (CEP). Headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, CEP is one of Citi’s largest legal entities and the main bank subsidiary for Citi in Europe. Gutiérrez-Orrantia takes on this role in addition to his existing Europe Cluster and Banking Head role, which he has held since November 2023.

As Head of Europe Cluster and Banking, Gutiérrez-Orrantia has overall responsibility for managing relationships with Citi’s clients in Europe, across all businesses, and accountability for a robust risk and control environment. As CEO for CEP, a vital part of his role will be to lead Citi’s European bank subsidiary and foster strong relationships with European regulators.

Gutiérrez-Orrantia has also been appointed as Vice Chair and Member of the Supervisory Board of Bank Handlowy w Warszawie S.A. (Citi Handlowy) (MC:3.43bn USD). Natalia Bozek, CEP and Europe CFO, and Fabio Lisanti, Europe Head of Markets, have also been appointed to the Supervisory Board of Citi Handlowy. Citi Handlowy, a subsidiary of CEP, is one of the largest financial institutions in Poland.

Gutiérrez-Orrantia has over 30 years of experience in financial services. He has been at Citi for 20 years and was most recently co-Head of Citi’s Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) Banking Capital Markets and Advisory business, where he led a team of more than 2,000 bankers in 54 markets. In that time, he has led some of Citi’s largest investment banking transactions across the UK and EMEA.

Citi has had a presence in Europe for over 100 years and operates on the ground in 24 countries in Europe, serving clients in 18 more.

Gutiérrez-Orrantia was Citi’s Europe Middle East and Africa Head of Banking, Capital Markets and Advisory (BCMA) from 2021 - 2023. Prior to that, he was Citi’s Chairman of Continental Europe from 2018 – 2021 and Chairman of Spain and Portugal from 2009 - 2021. Before joining Citi, Gutiérrez-Orrantia held banking roles at Merrill Lynch and Goldman Sachs. He is a Spanish national.
