Over 15 years, Citi Foundation’s investment in Romania reached one million dollars
The traditional partnership Citi and Junior Achievement is part of Citi’s Pathways to Progress global initiative, providing youth with the career readiness tools and opportunities needed to thrive in the 21st century economy.
Over 6,000 high school students in Romania will benefit from support in developing their entrepreneurial skills through interactive learning during this academic year, thus complementing their regular theoretical curricula.
Students will have the opportunity to understand how a company works, how to identify a product or service with market potential, and how to build a business plan, while making their first steps towards building a real company.
Over 150 teachers from 130 schools across the country, with the support of Citi Romania employees, will deliver classroom activities, ensuring a mix of theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
The participants in the program will benefit for free from supporting materials such as the teacher's and business consultant’s guide, the student’s handbook and other auxiliary materials.
“Approximately 75 million youth globally are actively seeking meaningful employment. To effectively compete for economic opportunities and succeed in the 21st century economy, these young people require a mix of education, employability, entrepreneurship, and leadership skills. Through our partnership of over 15 years with Junior Achievement, we remain committed to giving back to the new generation in Romania, equipping them for success in a competitive marketplace”, said Tibor Pandi, General Manager of Citi Romania.
"Our students get familiarized with entrepreneurship, while understanding the basics of a business and their competitive advantages, as well as the importance of ethics. We saw them very engaged when they started piloting their own companies, building promotional campaigns, creating product catalogues and other advertising materials, negotiating and making transactions between them”, said Lăcrămioara Grosu, teacher at “Ion Creanga” technology high-school in Curtici.
The program is part of Citi’s long term commitment to improving financial and entrepreneurial education in Romania. Over the period 2012-2015, through financial support from Citi Foundation, 15,000 students from over 70 cities in Romania learned the basics of entrepreneurship and developed together over 2600 business plans. Over 70 Citi Romania employees voluntarily spent over 240 hours working with students in the classroom or online.
The traditional partnership between Citi Foundation and Junior Achievement dates back to 2000 and over these 15 years, Citi Foundation’s investment in Romania reached one million dollars.
